Jerry Vance and peegate… what is the big deal?

CBC Marketplace busts Jerry Vance in 2012 for peeing in a cup during a service call. A tipster points out this footage is Jerry – a CPC Candidate. He has subsequently been dropped by the Conservatives.

Jerry... you have been served an injustice!

What is the big deal? I mean, he rinsed the cup! It’s on the video. He rinsed it out. And, he put it back in the sink so that the owner would not accidentally use it and sip the remnants of Jerry's emergency pee. And anyway, urine is sterile. In Survivor they pee on each other to clean jellyfish wounds. There isn’t really any harm in this.

It was just convenience, that's all. Jerry is super efficient. He didn’t waste all that valuable time walking to the bathroom. If he were to rule the country he would run a tight ship. He would get a lot done because he is not a man to waste any time. He probably pees in cups in his own home. He’s a family man. Cup peeing frees him up to spend more time with his family! He pees in cups for his children. Also, probably, as support for our troops. So, what’s the big deal?

Morarji Desai was the fifth Prime Minister of India from 1977 to 1979. He was a urine therapy advocate and drank some of his own every day. Among politicians, Jerry is not alone in this. Politics and urine are close bedfellows.

In a statement released Sunday evening, Jerry said "the footage from that day does not reflect who I am as a professional or a person. I deeply regret my actions on that day."

Of course you do, Jerry, because you got caught. But that’s beside the point. The point is that Jerry is gross. So what? So is politics. At least in private. Otto Von Bismark famously said, “Laws are like sausages, it’s better not to see them being made.” Jerry is simply preparing himself for all the gross, icky things that he will have to do behind the scenes as a Member of Parliament.

I salute you Jerry. Stay gross.

  2. I know, right? The media is so myopic. And I am not sure what myopic means.
